AR-15: The STG Configuration
VTAC 2-point padded sling (put a longer piece of para-cord on the release buckle)- MagPul MIAD or Ergo grip
- BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
- No vertical foregrip unless you’re running a lot of gear on the rail e.g., PEQ II
- JP VTAC, Daniel Defense RSI II or Troy Battle Rail
- Aimpoint Micro T-1 / EoTech XPS / Leupold CQ-T / Schmidt & Bender Short Dot
- Preferably, adjust sights to a Maximum Point Blank Range (MPBR), or 50 yd zero
- MPI Mil-Spec Bolt Carrier Group
- Wolff extractor spring
- H&K / USGI magazines
- Vortex / B.E. Meyers #249 flash suppressor
- STG Expert and Operator Levels: Geissele 2-stage Designated Marksman trigger, otherwise leave Mil-Spec
- 120+ lumen white light (Surefire) with VTAC light holder; no pressure switch, they cause accidental light discharges and easily break
- La Rue fixed rear iron with quick release base; cannot be used with magnified tubed scopes e.g., CQ-T. If using a tubed scope or red-dot magnifier install Troy battle sights
- CSAT (www.combatshootingandtactics.com) aperture; cannot be used with Troy Battle Sight rear
- Fixed A2 front iron night sight
- 1:7 twist barrel so 70+ gr bullets are supported
- Gas Impingement (GI) mechanism (we’re testing a couple of piston guns and will publish our findings this summer)
- Mark all adjustment controls with white lines so any creep or accidental movement can be easily seen
